Hot Mulled Apple Cider (Wassail)
Looking for a great holiday beverage this season? Try Mulled Apple Cider. This blend of warm spices and fresh apples spreads holiday cheer. Wassail, as it's known in England, has its roots in celebrations of a good apple crop. Folklore says celebrants poured the last cup of Wassail on the roots of the apple tree to encourage a superior crop the following year. Today, hot apple cider is enjoyed spiked or plain. Nothing says happy holidays more than a warm mug of Hot or Spiked Apple Cider aka Wassail.
Ingredients
- 1-gallon fresh apple cider
- 1 bag mulling spices
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
Optional Add-ins:
- Knob Creek Whisky
- Cinnamon Whiskey (like Fireball)
- Apple Whiskey (like green apple Jack Daniels)
Instructions
- Add Apple Cider and Mulling Spice sachet to a large stockpot.
- Heat on medium until the cider comes to a gentle simmer.
- Turn down low for about 20 to 30 minutes.
- In a heat-safe mug, serve hot apple cider as-is for a non-alcoholic treat.
- For your more "spirited" guests, provide bottles of Knob Creek whiskey, Fireball, or Jack Daniels Green Apple whiskey. Your guest can add at their own discretion.
