It’s rare to be on the frontier of a new social media app and then in walks the clubhouse app. This new powerhouse social media app was released in the spring of 2020 and is growing by the day. In this two-part clubhouse demo, I will answer the biggest question, What is the Clubhouse app? I will show you how to use the Clubhouse app, how to get an invite to Clubhouse, how to speak on Clubhouse, Clubhouse etiquette, and much more.

Two days ago, a good friend and I were talking on the phone. Near the end of our conversation, she said, “Have you heard of Clubhouse?” When I told her that I hadn’t, she started to explain it to me and sent me a link. She told me that once I download the app, fill out my information, and pick a username, one of my contacts will need to send me an invitation to officially join the app because the app is invitation only at this point. Clubhouse is also only for iPhone users right now.
I followed my friend’s instructions. Unfortunately, “The Qui Ingredient” was too long for my username, so I had to use “Quiana Adams” instead. I thought that I might have to wait a while to receive an invitation, but less than an hour later, one of my contacts pings me that I have been invited. At this point, I didn’t realize how lucky I was. From what I have been reading in my research for Clubhouse, people are paying for an invitation to join the app.
Clubhouse is an app that is comprised of miniature chatrooms. It is like informal talk radio. A group of like-minded individuals can come together to discuss different topics. There is no messaging or photos, only audio.
On your profile, you can write who you are, your title, what you do for clients, and your interests. You can also put links to your email, website, Instagram, and Twitter profile.
Because the app is less than a year old, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities in terms of how you can make money, expand your business, further your engagement, and increase your visibility on other platforms.
The most important thing to do on Clubhouse is to host a room. You host a room by creating a title, creating a chat, and inviting your followers to come join your room. People can start engaging with you in real-time.
Because Clubhouse is in its Beta stage, it is essentially a private app, and you need an invitation to join. The invitation is to maintain exclusivity and to keep people accountable. The creators of Clubhouse want to keep trolls and their nasty comments off of the app.
Once you receive your friend’s invitation, you get one invite to give to one of your friends. You may receive more than one invitation if you are a celebrity or a verified member. Once you’ve used the app consistently, participated in some rooms, and hosted some rooms, then you might receive a few more invitations.
At the bottom of your profile, you can see who nominated you or sent you an invitation. That person is attached to you for the life of your account at this point. This means that if you aren’t following the rules, you might get kicked off of the app. The person who nominated you might also get kicked off the app. This is why the invitations are so coveted and why people aren’t just giving out the invitations to anyone.
Another way to get on the app is “the side door.” What that means is you go to the Clubhouse website, download the app, and reserve a username. If you have a lot of friends or have a lot of people who are connected to you that are using the app then you may be “waved on through” without one of your friends or acquaintances having to use their official invitation.

When you join the room that you are interested in, you will become a member of the audience. The moderator of the room will control the flow of the conversation, keep people on topic, and freshens the room every so often. This means that if I walk into a room that started 30 minutes ago, the moderator will say something along the lines of, “If you are just joining us, welcome to our room. We are discussing _____ and my name is _____. _____ is my brand and _____ is what I do. We will open up the floor for Q&A at a certain point.”
As an audience member, you can just sit there and listen to the conversation the same way that you would listen to a talk radio show. You can also join the conversation. You can join the conversation by clicking the hand button at the bottom of your profile. Once the moderator or the host has opened up the floor for questions, you will be able to unmute and participate in a sort of roundtable discussion.
