As summer winds down to a close, we prepare for (my favorite season) the Fall Mango Chili Popsicles are one way to introduce the warm sensations of the upcoming season. Plus, these popsicles are the perfect excuse to sneak in a few more frozen treats before passing the baton from the freezer to the oven.
This is one of my favorite popsicle recipes. This treat is a love letter to my childhood in SOCAL. The sweet and spicy flavor profile is me all day! We are just about out of mango season here in the USVI. However, if my trees fruit like they did last year, I will be harvesting mangos next month.
Mango and Chili are perfect partners, and in a popsicle, it’s a beautiful marriage. Sweet and spicy? Yes, please. When I lived in the state-side following Hurricane Maria, the kids and I would enjoy grocery shopping at Sprouts Market. Their fresh produce, and of course, the aisles and aisles of self-service barrels with grains, snacks, nuts, and of course, chocolate were our favorite. One of the snack foods my mother and my friends asked to ship home to the Virgin Islands was the dried chili-mango. This mango chili flavor combo is not new, but it is lovely, nonetheless.
For me, the mango chili flavor takes me back to my days growing up in Southern California and the vibrant Mexican community there. I miss the Mexican dishes, pastry, and candies, so readily available in that part of our world. This popsicle is nostalgic for me, but really it’s all-around delicious.
Now that I live in the Caribbean, I have access to a large variety of mangos. When I long for this delicious, sweet, and savory flavor combo, I can make it from scratch with fresh, local ingredients.
I have one more popsicle recipe in my series before we cross the finish line to Autumn and it will be a fantastic end to the season. Stay tuned!
Blend together all ingredients until smooth
Pour mixture in popsicle molds and freeze for 4hours
When ready to serve sprinkle with chili lime seasoning and enjoy
